School at fault for thousands of gallons of diesel spilled near Yukon River

ANCHORAGE A school district has been deemed responsible for an estimated 3 thousand gallon diesel fuel spill on school property.

The spill was found Tuesday in Beaver at a fuel storage facility for the schools.

The amount spilled is about the equal to the volume of 10 truck bed tanks, and is about 600 feet from the village's drinking water source and the Yukon River.

The town is about a hundred miles north of Fairbanks.

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation says the Yukon Flats School District is responsible because a district snow plow driver hit a fuel pipe causing the spill.
