ANCHORAGE (KTUU) -

Update
APD has identifed the suspect in a shooting.

Police say 35-year-old Richard S. R. Goughnour was arrested and taken to the Anchorage Jail and charged with Assault I, Misconduct Involving a Weapon II, and Reckless Endangerment.

Initial indications are that Goughnour and the victim got into some type of verbal altercation at which time Goughnour fired his weapon. It does not appear the two knew one another beforehand. The nature of the argument is still under investigation.

The victim is expected to survive his injuries.

Original Story
Officers with the Patrol Division were dispatched to the 4500 blocks of McPhee Avenue in reference to a report of shots fired.

The preliminary investigation found that there was a verbal altercation between a man on foot and a man in a vehicle. At one point in the argument, the male in the vehicle brandished a gun and shot the other male in the upper body.

The suspect fled the scene and the victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers have cause to believe this is an isolated incident. There have been no arrests at this time.

There will continue to be a police presence in the area as the investigation is ongoing. McPhee Avenue is currently shut down between Pine Street and Lane Street. Please seek alternate routes.
