ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - UPDATE:
Anchorage Police have released the name of the victim, shot by his roommate.
APD says the victim is 20-year-old Caleb Rockafield.
Rockafield's roommate Samuel J. Fair is facing charges in what police are calling a homicide.
Rockafield was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police say that the gun death in East Anchorage on Tuesday night happened when the victim's roommate was handling a rifle at their residence when it discharged.
Police initially responded to the report of a gunshot victim around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday at the 5400 block of E 26th Ave.
Their preliminary investigation found that 22-year-old Samuel Fair was handling the gun when it fired, hitting an adult male in the upper body. When police arrived, they found the victim in the home and transported him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
In the morning, police announced that the victim had died of his injuries.
The suspect was charged with Assault I and Reckless Endangerment and more charges may be added.
