ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — In a brief interview with CNN Tuesday night, U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) called for an end to the government shutdown and a more focused approach to achieving progress on Pres. Trump's border security concerns.

"The operations of the Dept. of Interior and the National Park Service or the operations of the IRS and whether or not tax refunds go out don't have anything to do with border security," Murkowski said on Tuesday. "Let's bifurcate the issues. Let's set them aside. Let's allow for the operations — these governmental functions in these six other departments — allow for them to continue."
Murkowski said that with the government reopened, congress and President Trump can focus on carving out solutions to the President's "very legitimate concerns about border security" through the Homeland Security appropriations process.
