ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The annual Relay for Life campaign held its annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in Anchorage on Saturday.
"Strikes a little closer to home when it happens to you, and I was just having a conversation with a friend that told me about Relay for Life, and I thought that might be a good place to put my energy since I was not about to just lay down and give up," says Ken Young, a cancer survivor.
Relay for Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
This year's event theme was "relay around the world". Teams were asked to pick a country to represent at the event.
One woman participated on Saturday in honor of a loved one she lost to esophageal cancer.
"If anyone has any trouble swallowing and eats a lot of TUMS, go to the doctor, get things checked out early. Don't let it wait. Pay attention to your body it does give you signs," says Regina Henneman.
The event concluded with a luminaria ceremony celebrating the lives of those lost and those currently battling cancer.
