Mat-Su Valley

  • At Nancy and Big Lake, Northern Pike are in shallow water right now, so you can try your hand at spear or bow fishing.

  • The Susitna River drainage has an emergency order closing king salmon fishing and limits other species to single-hook artificial lure.

  • An opportunity for the family to catch Rainbow Trout is at Finger, Kepler, or Bradley lakes. Try a small piece of shrimp on a bobber.

  • Rainbows 10 inch or longer are being stocked daily in the Mat-Su.

  • Both Campbell and Chester creek are closed to sport fishing through June 14, due to spawning Rainbow Trout.

  • Stocked lakes around Anchorage include: Mirror, Lake Otis, and Jewel Lakes. Spinners and bait under bobber are your best bet for Rainbows.

  • Hooligan are being caught 1-2 hours before high tide, along the Seward Highway. Be sure to park off the road. Dipnetting for freshwater hooligan has no bag limit.

  • Fair fishing at the Kasilof River, but rainbows and steelhead trout caught must be released immediately.

  • There is an emergency order prohibiting retention at East Mackey, West Macky, Union, and Sevena Lake, for all species.

  • Try Sport Lake for Rainbow Trout. Dry or wet flier, small spoons and spinners, or small bait under a bobber are all good options.

  • With the Hidden Lake Boat Launch now open, there is an opportunity for lake trout trolling.
