Before trout have succumbed to the gluttony of their fall time diet of salmon eggs, they are looking for some more interesting snacks.

“Mousing,” or using a mouse-shaped fly to lure in trout looking for a protein-heavy snack during the sweltering summer months is an interesting and fun way to catch a few trout.

Lonn Goldbeck of Hell Bent Charters says he started mousing on Willow Creek off of the Parks Highway four or five years ago, but soon the secret got out.

“I tried to keep it a secret for a while, but nothing’s ever a secret that long in Alaska,” said Goldbeck.
