ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Alaska State Troopers have named the Troopers involved in a shooting in Fairbanks this weekend that injured one of their own and killed a Fairbanks man.

Tuesday the Alaska State Troopers wrote that Trooper Brian Hibbs is the officer who fired his weapon at 48-year-old Shawn Wilson of Fairbanks. Trooper Derek Cottle, who used less-lethal force in the incident, was injured.

Troopers say they were serving a warrant on a home in North Fairbanks at about 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, when the shooting happened.

Hibbs is an 8-year veteran of the Alaska Department of Public Safety, while Cottle has been with the department for 7 months after spending about 8 years with Fairbanks Airport Police and Fire.
