Two men now safe after being rescued from on top of a glacier

ANCHORAGE, (KTUU) - Two men are safe after being medevaced by the Coast Guard from Lemon Creek Glacier Sunday.

Officials say the men were reported to have been fatigued, but had no reported injuries.

The rescue was a joint effort between Juneau Mountain Rescue personnel, Alaska State Troopers and the Coast Guard.

"This case highlighted the great working relationship between the Coast Guard and Juneau Mountain Rescue," said Lt. Kellen Browne, a pilot on the case. "Preparation on the part of the survivors with the proper communication equipment was key to the successful rescue of the two hikers."

Juneau Mountain Rescue personnel spent most of the day searching for the two men. Once they found them, it was apparent that getting them down wasn’t going to be easy. That’s when Sector Juneau directed the launch of an Air Station Sitka helicopter aircrew to help.
