ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - As Alaskans face living in a recession many families are tightening the financial belt. Despite leaner times, two Anchorage businesses are celebrating major milestones.
Fireweed Cleaner has been family owned and operated for 50 years by the Earp, now Earp-Hampton family. The Alaska Small Business Administration recently named the shop the family business of the year.
Across town, Alaska's only Tastee Freez franchise is now in its 60th year of serving up bacon cheese burgers, milkshakes and nostalgia. A community celebration featuring 15 cent ice cream cones is scheduled for this Saturday.
