UTQIAGVIK, Alaska (KTUU) - Utqiagvik will soon seen its first franchise when Subway opens its doors in spring of 2017. The announcement comes just after the city took a big step back to its roots, with the changing of its name.
The location will mark the northernmost Subway in the United States, according to Subway Development Inc. About 500 miles south, Nome and Fairbanks have Subway locations.
Co-owner John Masterson says, "I'm very excited I've been there for 9 years and I'm ready for a new challenge for me and for the employees and for Subway themselves."
Masterson says the location will need to hire about 15 to 20 employees.
