ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A sergeant with the Anchorage Police Department happened across an unusual sight this week, and made sure the animal involved found its way back to the wild safely.

In a video posted to social media by APD, a black bear can be seen climbing around in a small tree on the University of Alaska Anchorage's campus near the arts building.
Kendra Doshier, spokesperson for APD, said that, since UAA is located in the heart of wooded areas, "wildlife are bound to show up from time to time."
If officers with APD see bears in residential or public areas, they are tasked with monitoring the animals and contacting Department of Fish and Game.
In this case, the bear, caught in the act of playing in the tree, decided to jump down after spotting the APD vehicle, and then moseyed into the nearby woods.
"We just made sure he went into the woods to find a different, better tree... way over there," APD said on Twitter.
