ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Each year, a group of veterans called Friends of Nike Site Summit, leads a tour of the Cold War-era Missile site in an effort to raise funds for preservation. The group, better known to many Alaskans as FONSS, has been around for over a decade and is dedicated to the site's restoration.

Nike Site Summit is a an old missile site that had been built at the very top of Arctic Valley in the early 60’s and was our country’s last line of defense against the Russians had the Cold War reached American soil.

The tour gavel people an inside look at what a missile site built nearly sixty years ago looked like and how it functioned. Nike veterans who served on the site during the Cold War guide the tour and tell personal stories from there time serving our country on Nike Site Summit.
