ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - For 365 days a year, guests at Hotel North Pole in North Pole, Alaska, have the option of booking its Santa Room and Santa Experience.
The Santa Room, which is decked out year-round in Christmas cheer, started up in 2013.
Wanda Adlesperger, the general manager of the hotel, came up with the idea after she took her granddaughter a few blocks down to Santa Claus House.
Her young granddaughter fell asleep in a long line and was grumpy by the time it was her turn to meet Santa.
“I thought, there’s got to be a better way for a child to meet Santa,” she said.
So instead of taking children to meet Santa, she thought, why not bring Santa to the hotel.
Thus the Santa Room and Santa Experience were born.
For the Santa Experience, Saint Nick will come to the room and have a personalized visit with families.
“The great thing is to see their faces when I knock on the door and they answer it,” Saint Nick said.
Couples will often book the Santa Room. Addlesperger said that someone may want to surprise their significant other with the suite.
“Sometimes the husband is in Iraq or Afghanistan for the holiday,” she said. “And when he returns home in June or July, the spouse will rent the room so they can have Christmas together.”
During Christmas, they open up a second Santa Room to keep up with demands.
