ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A Wasilla couple wanted as part of a mail theft investigation walked into the lobby of the Alaska State Trooper office in Palmer on Monday evening to turn themselves in.
Britanny and Jacob Melton, both 34, were named in an investigation that stemmed from surveillance footage shared on social media featuring people in a black SUV stealing mail. Troopers identified the driver as Jacob Melton and when they searched the couple's residence, they found 41 suspected stolen credit or debit cards and a typewriter that was being used to forge 30 suspected stolen checks.
Troopers estimated the value of the items purchased with the stolen cards at approximately $30,094.
The couple had warrants for nine counts of fraudulent use of a stolen access device and seven counts of second-degree theft.
Troopers say they are continuing their investigation and anticipate more charges.
