ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A Wasilla woman was charged with making a false report, after she reportedly told police that someone she knew had shot and killed her dog. Following an investigation, authorities say another dog was to blame, and the woman knew it all along.
Evaline McNamee age 62 of Wasilla, was charged with making a false report, according to the Wasilla Police Department, which investigated the case.
The incident was reported on April 30, with McNamee reportedly telling police her dog was killed in the Mission Hills area of Wasilla. She said the dog, Essie, was shot in her back yard, and claimed she knew who did it.
"Thorough investigation revealed that the dog was in fact killed by a larger dog that also resides on her property and that the complainant had knowingly made a false report, as she witnessed the larger dog attack and kill Essie," WPD stated.
WPD said false report charges were forwarded to the District Attorney's office in Palmer. So far, according to online court records, no official charges have been accepted by prosecutors in this case.
In a social media post, WPD wrote that it "wanted to make sure that the public had an update to this case on social media directly, as the initial report from the complainant has been widely circulated on Facebook."
