ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Anchorage Police have released the name of the victim found dead in a burnt SUV last month.
Police say 54-years-old Elsie Jackson was the victim.
Following some questioning, homicide detectives determined he was the suspect and placed him under arrest.
An affidavit filed in court, a police officer described an interview with Babcock in which he stated that he, along with his wife and another female acquaintance at the wheel, were riding in the car when the female passenger started "being mean" to him so he pulled over the vehicle.
Babcock went on to say that the female acquaintance then began to stab him with a knife. He told police he took the knife and repeatedly stabbed the woman and moved her to the front passenger seat and placed her upside down so that her head was down by the floor mat.
He told police that he then drove the vehicle to an area around Cheney Lake and lit the driver's seat on fire, rolling down the windows so that the flame could be fed.
According to the affidavit, he then told police that he walked around the area without shoes and covered with blood until he decided to have someone contact the police.
Now Babcock faces multiple charges including two counts of Murder, Arson, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
The vehicle fire took place near E 22nd Avenue and More Street near Cheney Lake Park.
