Coast Guard medevacs woman from cruise ship in Prince William Sound
The Coast Guard medevaced a 61-year-old woman with cardiac problems from a cruise ship near Bligh Island on the eastern side of Prince William Sound on Tuesday.
A 45-foot response boat took the woman from the Island Princess cruise ship to Valdez, where she was delivered for a higher level of medical care.
Despite the rain and 12 mile-per-hour winds, the crew was able to make a fast rescue.
"We are thankful to be able to assist this woman with such immediacy," said Senior Chief Petty Officer Erik Patterson of Anchorage. "Our station's location to the cruise ship allowed us to be on scene and assist as quickly as possible, allowing us to play a major part in saving this woman's life when timing is everything."
