UPDATE: Zoo homicide victim was Alaska Zoo head gardener

Anchorage (KTUU) — Update: 3:05 p.m.:
In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson for the Alaska Zoo said the victim of Monday's homicide was the Alaska Zoo's head gardener.

“The entire Alaska Zoo team was devastated when the Anchorage Police Department informed us that the deceased was Michael Greco, head gardener at the Alaska Zoo," the statement reads. "He has worked at the zoo since March 2014. Michael will be remembered for his enthusiastic attitude and the passion he put into such beloved annual events such as Zoo Lights, for which he created many displays. The Alaska Zoo will continue to work with police as they investigate his death.”

Anchorage Police say the man found dead in the parking lot of the Alaska Zoo Monday is the victim of a homicide.

Police say 45-year-old Michael Greco is the man who was found dead. His death was caused by “trauma to the body,” police said in a release. Police say the type and cause of trauma is not being released at this time.
