Volcanic eruptions sends "ash-rich" clouds into the air

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) The Alaska volcano, Bogoslof, erupted several times this morning.

The Alaska Volcano Observatory says the Aleutian Island volcano erupted from about 3:18 a.m. to 5:28 a.m. Saturday and sent a cloud of ash as high as 34,000 ft.

They say satellite data showed the cloud was more ash-rich than was previously seen which could mean the eruption may have destroyed the lava dome that was placed earlier this week.

The observatory says the volcano has remained at a heightened unpredictable condition and aviation alert levels will continue at red, the highest level.
