ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Alaska State Troopers say a teenager has been arrested and charged following an incident that left two people with stab wounds and prompted a school lockdown.
19-year-old Rick Andrews faces two counts of assault in the second degree and one count of assault in the third degree after allegedly making threats and bringing a knife to Kotlik School area.
AST said the man appeared upset when he"...made his way to the Kotlik School during school hours. The principle of the school saw Andrews walking toward the entryway with a large knife in his hand. The principal initiated a school lock-down just before Andrews made it to the front door," AST wrote in a dispatch.
Officials say Andrews was hitting the door and trying to get inside of the school while allegedly making threats to stab and kill the principal.
According to Alaska State Troopers, a man and a woman nearby attempted to help and were stabbed in the chest and stomach by Andrews. The victims were taken to Kotlik Clinic and transported by helicopter to Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, both victims are in stable condition, AST wrote.
"Two other residents saw Andrews and apprehended him without further incident and held him until AST's arrival," the dispatch states.
Troopers say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
