ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - It's every high school athlete's dream-- the ability to continue their athletic career at the next level. That was realized for 12 Service Cougar athletes Wednesday.
Sean Guevarra signed his NLI to play football for the University of Dubuque, a Division III school in Iowa.
Joining him for football is Hunter Pounds, who signed his NLI to play for College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California.
Also taking his football career to the next level is Isaiah Bailey, who will play for Culver-Stockton College next year.
In the sport of volleyball, two Cougars signed national letters of intent: Julia Fetko for UAA and Carly Burington for Tacoma Community College.
Three Cougars signed NLIs to run cross country and track and field at the next level. Grace Fahrney signed to run track and cross country at Gonzaga next year, while her classmates Jacob Belanger will be staying home to run for UAA and Clare Howard will be going to Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.
Emilie Wasson signed her NLI to play softball at Olympic Community College.
Caleb Law will be swimming at McKendree University next year, while Carsen Sandau will play baseball for Antelope Valley Community College.
Rounding out the Cougars who are continuing their athletic careers, Eli Hermanson will nordic ski for Montana State University next year.
