ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - For the second year in a row, the Knik 100 and 200 will be canceled due to warm weather and trail concerns.
It was scheduled to be run on January 4 before organizers announced the decision to cancel on the Knik 200 Facebook page on Thursday. 40 mushers were signed up to race in 2020 including Iditarod veterans Nic Petit and Wade Marrs.
The race committee wrote on Facebook it hoped to establish a new course that didn’t cross creeks or rivers, but that proved to be unrealistic. The Knik 200 is a qualifying race for the Yukon Quest and Iditarod.
