ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - It’s another step forward for the youth soccer scene in the 49th state as the Anchorage Youth Soccer Club was recently named an alliance club for Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers and National Women’s Soccer League.
“They approached us several months ago,” said Jo Reid “But we were cautious we wanted to make sure it was the right fit for us.”
The AYSC is the only soccer club in Anchorage to partner with a pro-level team and will join nine other alliance teams from Washington, Idaho and Oregon.
The local soccer club says this partnership opens a lot of doors, direct connection with pro coaching staffs, and exposure for players.
“It’s a direct pathway for our players to move up the ladder, we tend to be pretty isolated in Alaska,” said Reid.
AYSC will now be able to send players to regional training centers, invites to U.S. Soccer Development Academy League, along with professional coaching instruction from Portland’s Timbers and Thorns coaching staff.
The partnership means also means a lot to Reid because she’s been with the AYSC since it’s start, and has a lot of pride for the program.
“My best friend’s parents started this club, so for me to get the opportunity to push this club forward, and grow with it very exciting," said Reid.
In January the AYSC boys team will be the AYSC Alaska Timbers, and the AYSC girls team will be the AYSC Alaska Timbers.
