Alaskaman Extreme Triathlon tests athletes' limits

By Beth Verge

GIRDWOOD, Alaska - What's tougher than a marathon? How about a triathlon, that includes a marathon distance run? Better yet, why not hold that triathlon in Alaska, where racers have to swim in freezing water, bike 110 miles from one small town to another, and run up a ski mountain twice in order to finish?

There were 152 finishers of the AET this weekend. Andrew Fast of Salt Lake City was the top dog with a time of 11 hours, 18 minutes and 29 seconds, while Daniel Folmar was the fastest Alaskan and third overall (12:24:20). Morgan Chaffin of Elkhorn, Nebraska, took the women's title (12:47:50).

Registration for the 2018 race opens in the fall. You can see the full results list by clicking here.
