ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — Funding for sports is always hard to come by, and that's a real issue for girls high school hockey programs.
But the Anchorage Hockey Association says it's reached a deal with the Anchorage School District to continue the program within the district.
But that means the association will now have to foot the bill, and hockey isn't a cheap sport.
This is the first time in four years AHA will be running the program after outsourcing girls hockey to the Gomez Foundation.
This year, the foundation didn't renew its contract.
Now, AHA is seeking sponsorships and grants to cover the cost of the season, which will run from Oct. 8 to Feb. 2, 2019.
