ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - This week Anchorage snowboarder Ryan Stassel got big air in Beijing, China. The US Olympic snowboarder was one of seven members on the U.S. Snowboard and Freeski Team to compete at the Big Air venue in China.

Stassel did not qualify for the finals but had solid qualify runs scoring 148.25.

“Was able to land both my tricks but not as clean as I would of hoped.. Regardless pretty happy with how I rode being the first event of the season!" Stassel wrote on social media Friday.

The venue in Shougang Park was originally a steel mill before being closed before the 2008 Summer Olympics to cut pollution, according to Air + Style Committee. The park will be a permanent venue for the 2022 Beijing Winter Games and organizers hope a future destination for winter sports.
