FAIRBANKS (KTUU) - For the second time since 2015, Brent Sass is a Yukon Quest Champion.
The Eureka musher crossed the finish line just after 12:40 p.m. in Fairbanks Monday afternoon, after a big push Sunday from Central to Two Rivers.
Sass made his mark on the 2019 race with a big run from Central to the Two Rivers checkpoint.
That gave the 2019 champion a big lead over then-second-place Allen Moore, after the two mushers had been neck-and neck to that point.
Moore was the defending champion from last year's Quest. By Monday afternoon, Moore had dropped to third place, with another former Quest Champion, Hans Gatt, who's won the race four times, running in second.
