Buddy Streeper defends his title, takes the 2019 Open World Championship sled dog races

Anchorage (KTUU) -- Back to back titles for Blayne "Buddy" Streeper. The defending champion did what he came to do, defend his title and is your 2019 Open World Championship sled dog race winner.

"It feels amazing," Streeper said with a grin. "After a week of some challenges, barely made my start time the first day, truck trouble coming up here, one of my dogs went missing for a day, and today it went smooth."

This is Streeper's 7th Open World Championship win. He credits the love of tradition and history of Fur Rondy the reason he keeps coming back year after year.

"Some people aspire to be the President," he said with a chuckle. "Some people aspire to be a teacher, some want to be a nurse or a doctor. Well this is what I want to do. I want to come to Anchorage and I want to race in the World Championships and fortunately, the city of Anchorage has supported this race all these years.
