Champagne named UAF athletic director

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The University of Alaska Fairbanks named Keith Champagne Athletic Director. He will continue to serve as vice chancellor for student affairs.

Champagne replaces Sterling Steward as the Nanooks Athletic Director. UAF said Champagne’s new role will focus more on fundraising, marketing and community engagement.

In a press release from the school Champagne said, "We have something very special here. We have some of the best student athletes in the country, and we have a university and a community that believe in us and want us to be successful."

Champagne's resume includes experience as an interim athletic director at Central Washington University, a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, and a doctorate from the University of Washington with a focus on intercollegiate athletics leadership and sports management.
