ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — East High School is the defending Cook Inlet Conference champions, and this year's team is showing no signs of slowing down.
The 2018 roster has 16 returning members on both sides of the ball, and head coach Jeff Trotter says expectations are high heading into this season.
“We had a lot more people in the weight room,” Trotter said. “This is probably the most motivated group we've had in a while."
The Thunderbirds turned heads last season, winning a conference title with a completely different roster, but came up short of a state championship after losing to West on a last-second touchdown in the state semifinals.
“We're not going to try to carry over last year's game to this season,” said Senior Noah Johnson. “Going to throw that away, and just keep building."
East will open their season on the road playing Chugiak August 10th at 7:00 PM.
