Despite Cerebral Palsy, Martinelli took the field for Soldotna Football

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The Soldonta Stars football team took on Eagle River over the weekend, and the final score of 81-7 wasn’t what people were talking about after the game. Longtime team manager Matthew Martinelli got to start his first career high school football game.

The Stars snapped the ball, took a knee, and Martinelli was taken off the field in his wheel chair ecstatically waving his hands to crowd as he was taken back to the sidelines.

Martinelli has been battling Cerebral Palsy and is confined to a wheelchair as a partial quadriplegic. The Peninsula Clarion wrote Martinelli had been helping out as the team manager seventh grade.
