Former Bethel standout finds a new home at South as the head wrestling coach

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - South High wrestling only lost one duel during the regular season and plans on similar success at the 2019 Cook Inlet Conference region wrestling tournament. For the first time in school history, the Wolverines will host the tournament Friday.

The defending state champions are led by first-year head coach Randy Hanson who spent the past four years as an assistant for South. Hanson was a three-time state champion at Bethel High and was recently inducted in the Alaska Schools Activities Association hall of fame.

After leaving Bethel, Hanson wrestled at the University of Minnesota. During his time with the Gophers, he discovered his passion for coaching at the Jay Robinson Wrestling clinics. Hanson graduated from the Univ. of Minnesota and returned to Alaska and started his coaching career.

"I just love helping individuals achieve their goals, and using my experiences to help them along the way,” said Hanson.
