Matt Thomas named ECHL all-star game coach

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) — What a difference a year makes. Former UAA head hockey coach Matt Thomas has been named head coach of the ECHL Western Conference All-Star team.

Thomas is the head coach of the Cincinnati Cyclones, and has lead the Cyclones to a central division lead at the halfway point in the season.

Shortly after the 2018 college hockey season came to an end, Thomas' contract was not renewed by UAA. He had a 48-105-21 record during his time with the Seawolves, and 39-92-27 in the WCHA over five seasons.

Professional hockey seems to be a better fit for Thomas, who coached from 2002 until 2013 in the ECHL, and has never been a part of a losing season during that time.
