FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU) - The 2020 Yukon Quest was welcomed with frigid temperatures at the start line in Fairbanks on Saturday.

Defending champ Brent Sass said his team was happy to be back on the trail, and he was even happier seeing 2018 champ Allen Moore in the field.

“I thought Allen wasn’t going to sign up, but he did on the last day, “ Sass said with a chuckle.

Moore said he’s just trying to keep up with all the youngsters.

“It makes for good competition,” Moore said with a smile. “He’s going for his third and I’m looking at my fourth, so it should be a good race.”

15 mushers are in this year’s field, considerably less than last year but everyone has high excitement for this year’s race.

At the writing of this post, many of the mushers were closing in on the Two Rivers checkpoint.
