Historical day at Service High as Cougars raise banner for inclusion

ANCHORAGE (KTUU ) - Banners fill the Service High Gym with region and state championships. Tuesday, another banner joined the rafters, but this time it was for inclusion.

Service High School Partners Club celebrates the unveiling of their Unified Champion Banner.

The Cougars were recognized as one of the top 30 schools across the nation for their Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools National Recognition Program. To celebrate the honor, Service held a school-wide assembly and became the first school in all of Alaska to raise a unified champion banner.

Service Partners club caught the attention of Special Olympics and ESPN earlier this year through years of work incorporating students with and without disabilities through community activities like the superhero hockey game, homecoming floats, and school dances.
