The Juneau School District announces today it will send a formal request to the Alaska School Activities Association, asking to consolidate the football and cheer teams at Juneau Douglas High School, allowing student-athletes at Thunder Mountain High School to play at JDHS.
Originally the request included hockey, but according to JSD a potential reclassification of high school hockey would impact JDHS therefore it has decided not to request consolidation of that sport at this time.
According to JSD, the football programs at JDHS and TMHS have faced deficits in funds and participation. JDHS had a negative balance of $5,689 at the beginning of the football season while TMHS had a negative balance of $100,821.
