Anchorage (KTUU) Kikkan Randall thought she was just going to Kincaid to cheer on her cousin, Kelsey Johannes in her cross country meet this Saturday.
Johannes is a runner for West.
But instead, Randall was treated to all the participants wearing pink in her honor. Letting her know that the community of Anchorage has her back through her battle with breast cancer.
Eagle River cross country coach Jacob Bera came up with the idea. He told Channel 2 it was a no brainer for everyone involved with the meet to let her know how much they love and support her.
"She's such a great role model for the athletes," Bera said. "We all look up to her so much."
Randall took to social media after the event, saying that everywhere she turns, people are giving her strength to fight her battle with cancer.
