UAA running star awarded 'athlete of the year' honor

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The awards keep pouring in, Tuesday University of Alaska Anchorage's Caroline Kurgat was named the Honda DII athlete of the year.

Over a thousand schools took part in the award voting, and honors the nation’s top NCAA women athletes.

This comes after she became the first ever national champion in women’s program history, capturing the division two cross-country running championship this fall.

After that, Kurgat followed up this spring winning two distance titles at the outdoor track and field championships.

She’ll be honored with the award on CBS Sports Network on June 25, 2018 (6 p.m. PT, or 9 p.m. EST).
