ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - UAA's Caroline Kurgat was named the United States Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Scholar Athlete of the Year Thursday.
The senior runner was named the same for cross country running in the fall of 2017.
Kurgat is a nursing and medical lab technologies major, who finished the year with a cumulative GPA of 3.52. The standout also won the 5,000m and 10,000m events at the NCAA Div. II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in late May.
Five men and seven women from the Seawolves' roster earned All-Academic honors form the Coaches Association. To qualify for All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA championships.
