Mushers prepare to race the 30th running of the Copper Basin 300

Gakona (KTUU) It's called the toughest 300 miles in sled dog racing and it's set to start Saturday in Gakona. We're talking about the Copper Basin 300.

41 mushers spent the afternoon in Glennallen on Friday registering and getting their vet checks ahead of the race.

Among the pack were Yukon Quest and Copper Basin Champion, Allen Moore, and Iditarod veteran Brent Sass.

They'll be hoping to beat Nicolas Petit, who won the race last year.

Organizers say this is one will be special as it's the 30th running of an iconic race.

While the race typically starts in Glennallen, it was moved 30 miles north this year because the rivers haven't totally frozen over yet.
