NYO day two brings about a new state record in the scissor broad jump

Anchorage It was a thrilling day for Native Youth Olympic fans as a new state record was set in the boys division in the scissor broad jump.

John Villena set a new state record with his 36 foot jump in the scissor broad jump.

"I've been dreaming about this," he said with a grin. "I can't put into words how it feels."

For the girls, Catherine Sunny of Mte. Edgecumbe took the win with a jump of 28′ 2 ¼”.

The one handed reach winners were decided on Friday. Taking it for the girls was Camille Bernard from Mat-Su with a reach of 59 inches.

For the boys, that belongs to Shelby Samuel, with a reach of 65 inches.

NYO day two wrapped up with the finish of the two foot high kick.

Winners in that event are Andrea Apthorp from Mat-Su with a kick of 72 inches and for the boys, it's Trevor Wilson from Unalaska with a kick of 94 inches.

NYO wraps up its final day of competition on Sunday.
