ANCHORAGE (KTUU) — With the school year right around the corner, the University of Alaska Fairbanks has finally come around to hiring a new men’s basketball coach.

The Nanooks named Greg Sparling the new leader of the school's hoops squad. Sparling comes to Fairbanks from Central Washington University where he went 386-253 during his tenure with the Wildcats. He also guided his teams to 172 wins in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The new bench boss already has a campus connection in Fairbanks as well: UAF Vice Chancellor Keith Champagne hired Sparling at CWU back in the early 1990’s.

Sparling will replace former head coach Mick Durham, who's led the 'Nooks for the past seven seasons.
