Fairbanks (KTUU) Another season of hockey will happen in the Carlson Center for the Alaska Nanooks.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks announcing in a statement today that the university will renew the Carlson's Center contract for the hockey team, with the Patty Center as a backup option if the Carlson Center cannot meet the needs at any point in the 2019-2020 season.
The statement goes on to say that UAF will begin plans to find a new home for Nanook hockey on campus within two years.
The focus of moving the ice hockey team from the Carlson Center has been a focus for years, the release goes on to say, since UAF learned of the advanced aging of the Carlson Center ice plant.
"Given this concern and our long term interest in supporting the Nanooks and our community, it is important that we have short-and long-term plans for hockey," the release says.
The Nanooks have been in the Carlson Center since 1990.
