New season, new home: UAA, UAF hockey kick off Governor's Cup at Seawolf Sports Complex

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The University of Alaska Anchorage welcomes the Nanooks of the University of Alaska Fairbanks to campus Friday night for UAA's home opener inside their new digs.

The old Wells Fargo Sports Complex, now called the Seaworlf Sports Complex, will be a much more intimate setting than that of the Sullivan Arena: SSC has a capacity of about 800 people, while the Sully welcomed about 2,000 spectators for each home game. Tickets have long been sold out for the Friday night match-up, according to UAA officials.

Most parking nearest the arena will be available for $5 a spot. Free parking is scattered throughout the UAA campus.

UAA last captured the Governor's Cup for the hockey series during the 2008-2009 season. While UAF has won ever series since, it was forced to surrender three straight cups because of NCAA violations.

Puck drop for Friday's game will be at 7:07 pm.
