Petition begins for Jim Lanier to be able to run Iditarod 2020

Anchorage (KTUU) A petition has begun for the Iditarod Board of Directors to allow Iditarod veteran Jim Lanier to run the 2020 Iditarod.

It's on Change.org.

The petition asked the Board of Directors to overrule the review board and allow Lanier to run the 2020 Iditarod. It further states that Lanier has a reputation of a true professional who puts the health and well-being of his dogs above all, and he keeps himself fit and healthy.

As of this writing, 157 people have signed the petition.

The chair of the review board Mark Nordman told Channel 2 earlier this week it was a difficult decision, but they factored in the feedback they received from the Yukon Quest, which Lanier ran earlier this year, plus concern whether he will be able to take care of himself and his dogs.

Lanier told Channel 2 he will still mush this winter and hopes to run the Iditarod sometime in the future.
