ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Early Thursday Morning musher Brent Sass was the first team to arrive at the Dawson City Checkpoint and received two ounces of gold for his efforts.
The defending Quest champion told the race he was looking forward to food and sleep since every team must take a 36-hour mandatory layover at the Dawson checkpoint.
With 393 miles left in the race, the first five and half days were highlighted by a back forth between front runners Michelle Phillips and Sass. The difference so far has been Sass’s decision to make a longer run out of the Eagle checkpoint while Phillips stopped for rest at Clinton Creek.
