NOME, Alaska (KTUU) - A sixth musher has scratched out of Iditarod 2018 Tuesday afternoon.
Rookie musher Tom Schonberger of Chugiak scratched at 1:33 p.m. between the Grayling and Eagle Island checkpoints, a release from the Iditarod said.
The release said Schonberger made the decision to scratch in the best interest of his race team. A spokesperson says Iditarod trail sweepers caught up to the musher and he told them his decision. He is traveling back to Grayling with help from the Iditarod trail sweeps.
Schonberger had 11 dogs in harness at the time he made the decision.
