Seawolves hold off Nighthawks for Sweet Sixteen berth

La Jolla, CA (KTUU) Back to the Sweet Sixteen for the UAA women's basketball team! The Seawolves had their hands full but they got the win over GNAC foe Northwest Nazarene 69 to 67 Saturday night.

Senior guard Tara Thompson had a season high 19 points, followed by 16 points from GNAC player of the year Hannah Wandersee.

According to head coach Ryan McCarthy, his team's performance left a lot of things to be desired.

“We only won that game because we went 11 of 18 from the three-point line,” he said. "We wanted to out rebound them – that didn’t happen. We wanted to take care of the ball – that didn’t happen. But the one thing I said was ‘get hot,’ and we did and it all worked out. And that’s March, and that’s why it’s special.”

This is the fourth time this season UAA has played NNU, and the third time in 17 days.

Next up for the Seawolves is a date with Azusa Pacific on Monday, March 18th at 6 pm Alaska time for the regional championship.
