The University of Alaska Anchorage fell to Azusa Pacific 65-62 in the NCAA Div. II Women's Basketball Tournament.
The Seawolves led the game 63-62 with 3.2 seconds to go after a Tara Thomspon three-pointer, but the Cougars' Lydia Nieto would respond with a three at the buzzer to win it for Azusa Pacific.
The University of Alaska Anchorage Women’s Basketball team is taking on Azusa Pacific at 6 p.m. for the NCAA Div. II Western Region Championship.
Both teams survived close games Saturday to advance to Monday's region championship.
The UAA women defeated GNAC rival NNU on Saturday 69-67. Senior guard Tara Thompson had a season-high 19 points, followed by 16 points from GNAC player of the year Hannah Wandersee.
That was the fourth time this season UAA has played NNU, and the third time in 17 days.
The Cougars upset Region host University of California San Diego 64-61, ending UCSD’s historic 30-game winning streak.
Winner of Monday night’s game advances to the NCAA Div. II Women’s Elite Eight in Columbus, Ohio on March 26.
